Background

As part of infrastructure funding that we receive from the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the ADS undertook a survey to understand the current levels of research data deposition, which stands at approximately 20% of all funded projects. This survey was also designed to identify training needs were required to ensure data deposition, with a lack of skills and knowledge in data management highlighted as a key concern. Consequently the ADS designed and delivered free in-person training in data management practices to help researchers manage and deposit their research data with an accredited archive for long-term sustainability.

This version of this training resource was created following the initial phase of in-person training workshops, which were delivered in 2023 and 2024 to six different archaeology and classics departments from institutions from across the UK.

This resource has been created to both supplement the in-person training workshops and to widen access to this knowledge and skill base for researchers in the UK and beyond.

Further updates to this resource will appear in the future as new in-person sessions are undertaken. If you are interested in receiving this training in person or have any recommendations as to edits or additions to this resource please contact the ADS helpdesk.
